§ 01 · The problem

Everyone wants you to buy their  bike.

You signed up for a charity ride, a gran fondo, or just decided it's finally time. Now you need a bike, and every source of advice has something to sell you.

Bike shops have inventory to move. Reddit has four hundred opinions and you don't know who you're talking to. You've got a date on the calendar and no time to do the research.

I'm an experienced cyclist with nothing on the shelf to sell you. Let's spend thirty minutes to understand your specific situation.

01
Shops have a business to run, they sell what they have
It isn't malicious. It's the job. Your local shop will be enormously helpful, but you should be well informed.
02
Reddit is noise
400 opinions, zero context for your goal, budget, or body. Does the commenter on the other end actually do what you do? Decide for yourself.
03
The clock is ticking
Your event or goal has a date. Decisions need to happen in days, not weeks, and on your schedule.
§ 02 · What we cover

Everything you need.
Nothing you don't.

01
Right type of bike
Road, gravel, mountain, hybrid. Let's talk through the differences and decide what fits your event and lifestyle — without the jargon or the posture.

§ 04 · FAQ

Questions, answered.

Q.01Do I need to know anything about bikes first?
Nope. Zero knowledge is fine. Total beginners are exactly who this is for. Bring your event, your budget, and your questions. If you've already embarked on research, bring that too!
Q.02What if I haven't picked a budget yet?
We'll figure it out. Part of the call is showing what different price points actually buy, so you can set a number with context instead of vibes.
Q.03Is this just a "spend more money" call?
No. I'll tell you where spending matters and where it doesn't. There's plenty of room to save without compromising the ride. Share some details about what you need to accomplish before we talk — if I'm not the right fit, I'll tell you ahead of time.
Q.04I've shortlisted some bikes. Can I bring them?
Even better. Send the list ahead of time and we'll evaluate each one — right type, right size, right price for your event.
Q.05How is this different from asking at a shop?
To be clear, you should use a local shop! I'm not replacing them, just helping add to your understanding. If you're there on a Saturday morning, a good shop is packed — you may not get 30 minutes to ask all of your questions. A shop has stock to move and staff on commission. I have neither. My only goal is for you to buy the right thing — even if that's something they don't carry.
Q.06What happens after the call?
A short follow-up email summarizing what we covered, and I'll add some notes I think are relevant. Please follow up if there are outstanding questions or you want to chat again - I'm flexible on how we arrange it (quick email, another zoom, review a purchase list, etc.)
Q.07Why not just ask ChatGPT?
You should! If you know what to ask, you'll get great answers. Trouble is, you might not know what to ask — I'll help with context, so you do know what to look for. ChatGPT has never spent 12 hours on a bike; it'll miss something.
Q.08Why would I trust your perspective?
I've been helping friends and family for years, and I'll tell you if I'm not the right opinion for your specific needs.

My riding spans road, gravel, and occasional mountain biking — with gravel being a constant pull whenever the opportunity arises. Over the years I've done everything from fast group rides and multi-day charity events to a solo cross-country ride, ultra-distance gravel (200+ miles), and 12-hour time trials. I handle all my own wrenching, and my philosophy leans toward dialing in comfort and enjoyment over chasing marginal gains in speed using equipement alone. The engine (you) is the biggest factor, not the weight of your pedals.
